How to Shoot a Premium Looking Image
How can I help you Shoot a Premium Looking Image? This is a great question…What makes a great product shot resonate with the audience? What does a photographer need to do in order to elevate the photography and create an image that connects better and excites the potential customer more?
Product Photography has so much more to offer than just a shot against a white background. Anyone with good training can take a clean product shot for a web site. Don’t get me wrong, this is an important part of a product photographers job. I have done plenty of it in my time as well.
However, what happens when your client asks you for a Premium Looking Image that they want to use as the hero marketing asset? Would you know what is involved in that? Could you talk to them and make sure you have enough time allocated for the shoot and a good production budget? Do you think you understand the brief well enough, and know where you are going to start off from, and what process you are going to hold in your mind as you are working?
This is a big subject, one that we will continue working on with other articles very soon! However this Masterclass kick-starts the discussion and learning from the viewpoint of actually taking a shot with this very challenge in mind.
This Masterclass tutorial is essential teaching for anyone wanting to raise their level of product photography. Check out Shoot Products Like A Pro, Product Photography Course trailer page for details on how you can learn to be a much better product Photographer

How to Shoot a Premium Looking Image
Hello, I’m Phil sills, and welcome to this masterclass.
This class covers the subject of ‘How to take a Premium Looking Image.’
Let’s start off by having a quick chat about why a Masterclass? What does that mean to me…?
The difference in my mind between a Masterclass, and a normal tutorial session is that in the masterclass, we should be deep diving into detail we normally do not get to cover
In a longer class session, I can also get to talk with you in a more personal way. I want you to feel like you are in the studio with me, seeing and gaining the knowledge 1st hand. This is one of the reasons why I record and edit these sessions myself. I want the learning to be honest, real and to resonate with you in a direct way.
Upon thinking about what I wanted you to get out of this class, I decided I wanted it to be of benefit to everyone. We are photographers, at all sorts of different levels. However, there is something that binds us together. This something impacts our actions and thoughts in the same way, whether an amateur or professional photographer. And it is the “desire to know how we can be better at what we do”.
So, this has got me thinking. Dangerous, I know!
Very often, I feel when people think about product photography, they think of the classic on-white ecommerce cut out image. But there is so, so much more to give then that! Throughout my career as a photographer, I have wanted to challenge my abilities, my creative thinking and thought processes. To me there is a massive physical and mindset difference between what I call a Pack Shot and a Premium Looking Image.
In shoot Products Like A Pro, we cover basic fundamental building blocks that will enable a member to become a confident product photographer. A lot of this teaching is perfect for you when creating a high-quality product shot. See the module trailers here
But what about the creative image? Where does that extra level of creativity and higher-level look and feel come about?
Suffice to say, in a nutshell, is that to shoot a Premium Looking Image takes true understanding of the product you’re about to shoot, a clear idea about what you think you want to achieve and why, and then total focus on the creative journey before you can find your result. That’s all!
Now that may sound complex, but it really is quite simple. It’s a process that we can develop and nurture together through these masterclass sessions.
What I would like to do now, is take you through the process of shooting a ‘Premium Looking Image’ in detail from start to finish. And what I want you to be thinking about as you’re as you’re looking at this video, is not so much about what I’m doing with the product or the lights. That’s all really important I know, however that is only one side of the equation.
The other side is the thinking and the questions I am asking myself. Think about the order in which I go about working. This is a really important part of setting the shot up in the right way, to enable and to give yourself the room to think and create something unique and amazing.
So, I hope you enjoy it, let’s crack on.
